The title for this piece comes from the image I see in my mind every time I hear it. I see a vast ocean with the sun slowly rising from the horizon far off in the distance.

This piece was started by my music teacher, Rosie Sutton. She gave me a sheet of paper she’d scribbled down the first section on, and said “finish it”. This piece was the result.

This piece began like any other, I was sitting down at the piano, and some ideas came into my head. I stored these ideas, and left the piece for a while.
I started work on it again soon after my grandfather died. Through this piece, I was able to look back and see the good times I’d had with my grandfather, and accept that he’d gone forever. This was my way of saying “good-bye” to him.
